Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno (CFR), Elderstateman and the first minister of petroleum, has been kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect.
Dr. Monguno, 87, was abducted at about 2pm soon after he performed his Juma’at congregational prayers at Mafoni ward of Maiduguri metropolis in Borno State.
His kidnap comes on the heels of a recent warning by the Military Joint Task Force ‘Opeartion Restore Order,’ which revealed that the Boko Haram sect had plans to embark on kidnappings for ransom.
The Special Adviser on Communications to Governor Kashim Shettima, Alhaji Isa Umar Gusau, confirmed the incident.
